With terrible solemnity they entered the hall, ten abreast, fluffy green tops bristling at attention, ragged little stems tucked into polished little jackboots. Children ducked behind their parents as the procession moved past, peering out from behind skirts and leaves. How terrible the war must have been! How noble its survivors!
